Objectives:
Students will understand the importance of overall wellness.
Students will be able to perform a variety of new skills that will help them maintain a desired level of physical fitness.
Students will participate in physical activity for challenge, enjoyment, social interaction, and self-expression. This physical activity will include both individual and team sports.
Students will understand and use the principles of good physical conditioning.
Class Policies
Students are not allowed to have food, drinks, candy, or gum while in the gym or the locker rooms.
Cell phones, iPods, or any other personal electronics are not allowed to be used during school hours. Because electronics are a high-theft item, we discourage students from bringing them to school. If we see them out during class, they will be confiscated and given to the administration.
Students’ uniform for PE should include:
A light gray or white t-shirt with first name and last initial clearly visible on the front. First name and last initial should be on the upper back of the shirt as well, with letters at least 2” in height.
Black athletic shorts or athletic pants with the student’s name on them.
If preferred, PE uniforms can be purchased for $15 on PowerSchool or in the office.
Athletic shoes and socks. No flip-flops, Crocs, slip-ons, boots, heelies, skate shoes, or other shoes that cannot be laced up tight.
All clothing should be modest, loose-fitting, and appropriate for co-ed physical education classes. This includes shorts that fall at an appropriate length and shirts that have sleeves and are long enough to tuck in when necessary.
First day of dressing down is Wednesday, AUGUST 14 for Semester 1 and Wednesday, JANUARY 8 for Semester 2. Please bring PE clothes by then!
PE clothing should be cleaned regularly. At least weekly is recommended.
Students will have 4 minutes before and after class to change. Showers are available, but not required.
All members of the SRIS PE community are expected to behave with respect, integrity, citizenship, hard work, and perseverance.
Lockers/locker rooms
All students will be assigned a locker with a combination lock in the locker room. Locks cannot be brought from home.
It is the responsibility of the student to keep all belongings locked up in their locker at all times and to keep their combinations confidential.
Pad locks are to remain in the locker rooms at all times.
The girls’ and boys' locker rooms are “scent-free zones”. No perfumes, body sprays, scented lotions, hair sprays, etc. are allowed. If students would like to use these products, they are welcome to do so outside of the gym/locker room areas.

Specifics of Learning Targets and GVC will be linked through PowerSchool and/or Schoology.

Students will be graded based on proficiency in the Utah Core State Standards for Physical Education (linked above). They will be graded by the following:
o Academic Grade: fitness testing (based on effort and improvement), written tests, workout quizzes, visual assessments on skill effort and improvement, and other oral quizzes/assessments.
o Participation/Effort: Strand 4 of our standards pertains to developing cooperative skills and positive personal behavior through communication and respect for self and others. This strand will be graded according to participation, personal responsibility, dressing down each day, and sportsmanship. The students will start the term with 41 points. A point total at the end of the term of 40 will be scored a 4, a point total of 30-39 will be scored a 3, a point total of 20-29 will be scored a 2, a point total of 10-19 will be scored a 1, and a score of 0-9 will be given an NE.
Point deductions will include:
Having unexcused tardies
Missing part or all of the PE uniform
Not participating, not cooperating, or demonstrating poor sportsmanship
