Vocabulary:
Choking: difficulty breathing because of an obstructed airway.
Heimlich Maneuver: a procedure done to dislodge an object from an airway.
1st degree burn: a minor, non blistered burn that only affects the outer layer of skin.
2nd degree burn: a burn that affects the first and second layers of skin. Second degree burns usually blister.
3rd degree burn: a burn that affects the first three layers of skin or all the way to the muscle tissue or bone.

Heimlich Steps:
Ask: (Ask the person if they are choking)
Shout: (Shout for someone to call 911)
Begin: (Begin performing the Heimlich Maneuver)
Stop: (Stop giving the Heimlich once the object is dislodged)
Go: (Encourage the victim to go to the doctor to have their trachea checked)
3 Ways to perform the Heimlich Maneuver:
Stand behind the victim, make a fist, wrap your arms around the victim's abdomen, and thrust upward.
You can perform it on yourself using a chair, or table.
If the person is unconscious, you perform cpr while they are laying on the ground.
How to avoid choking:
Chew or cut food into smaller pieces.
Try to avoid talking or laughing while eating.
Don't eat while lying down.
Try to avoid exercising while eating.
Avoid having small objects around when toddlers and infants are around.
Basic First Aid:
Care for burns includes:
running burn under cool (not cold water) until the burning sensation subsides (up to 20 minutes).
putting on antibacterial ointment and a bandage.
Not popping any blisters as it can introduce infection and leave the wound vulnerable to bacteria.
Care for cuts includes:
applying pressure to stop the bleeding.
putting antibacterial ointment and a bandage on the wound once the bleeding has stopped.
applying a tourniquet above the wound if direct pressure does not stop the bleeding.
