This course follows the guidelines of the Utah State Core Curriculum for Health Education. It can be found at

  • Students will understand the importance of setting and keeping goals.

  • Students will be able to use lifetime skills such as resiliency, responsibility, and decision-making to aid in the development of the overall person.

  • Students will use stress management techniques to to manage overall wellness.

  • Students will learn the basics of CPR and First Aid.

  • Students will learn about the protective factors associated with substance abuse.

  • Students will learn and apply general principals of nutrition.

Class Policies

  • Students are not allowed to have food, drinks (other than water), candy, or gum while in class.

  • Cell phones, iPods, or any other personal electronics are not allowed to be used during school hours. Because electronics are a high-theft item, we discourage students from bringing them to school. If we see them out during class, they will be confiscated and given to the administration.

  • Students should show respect in comments and actions while in class.

Discipline Agreement:

1. Warning

2. Student Action plan—teacher and student will agree on a plan that the student can do to resolve the problem

3. Parent contact—note, e-mail, or phone contact with parent to help resolve the problem

4. Administration/ counselor involvement

In addition to level 3 performance, demonstrates an IN-DEPTH understanding through application and/or teaching of the standard/skill by submitting extension form.

Students will be graded based on proficiency in the Utah Core State Standards for Physical Education (linked above). They will be graded by the following:

Academic Grade: Each Strand will have an assessment and a project. The overall grade will be the average between the project and the assessment. Students who wish to achieve a "4" mastery will be given an opportunity to beyond proficiency.
